The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) this afternoon endowed two professorial chairs in ICT focused and telecoms related research at Bayero University Kano (BUK) and the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). The value of each endowment for the 2019-2020 academic session is Twenty Million Naira.

The NCC affirmed that this unprecedented development in the history of telecommunication in Africa is informed by the need to establish concrete linkages and deepen the relationship between the telecom industry and the academia in Nigeria; and to provide the missing integration and collaborative partnership required to galvanise qualitative research in telecommunications in Nigeria.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, while instituting the professorial chairs at the Head Office of NCC today, urged the two beneficiary institutions to deploy the best of their human and material resources capable of delivering the objectives of this initiative in order to encourage NCC to extend the gesture to more institutions in the future.

The Vice Chancellors of the two institutions, Professors Yahuza Bello and Francis Eze expressed gratitude to to NCC and assured the Commission that the seminal intervention would receive every attention it deserves in order to encourage NCC to extend such collaboration and partnership to other universities and institutions in the future.
