A delegation comprising the Board and top Management Executives of MTN paid a courtesy call to NCC.

The Delegation made of Pascal Dozie, Chairman  MTN Nigeria ; Phuthuma Nhleko, Executive Chairman Board of Directors MTN Group; Rob Shuter, CEO and President of MTN Group; Retired Colonel Sani Bello, Vice Chairman, MTN Nigeria; Chief Victor Odili, Director, MTN Nigeria and Ferdinand Moolman, CEO MTN Nigeria were received at the NCC’s head office by the Executive Vice Chairman and Senior Management Team of NCC.

Phuthuma Nhleko, the Executive Chairman Board of Directors MTN Group while speaking at the meeting commended the NCC’s strategic and participatory regulatory model; stressing that the purpose of their visit is one aimed at being on the same page with the Commission while ensuring that MTN meets the objective of its license terms. 

He further stated that we are here because of the need to have a first hand experience of our investment environment in Nigeria.  He said Nigeria is their biggest market in Africa with huge potentials yet untapped and, that they are  grateful to the opportunity for investment since 2000 when they acquired a license to operate as a GSM company in Nigeria. 

He further stated that they are also here to discuss matters that has to do with spectrum, deployment of ICT, IoT, Operations, Executions, Policy and MTN Stock Exchange Market, Internet Penetration, Education, Entertainment and other issues that can address challenges of the industry and provide greater growth and employment. 

Prof.  Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO NCC expressed delight at the delegation visit and direction, while stating in clear terms that the Commission will do whatever is possible to ensure a favorable, conducive and fair environment for all. 

He also stated that MTN has paid over 50% of its fine which is about 165 Billion Naira and, said that NCC has also renewed the MTN License and that MTN and NCC still cooperate with futuristic agenda for the advancement of the digital telecom space in Nigeria with innovative technologies. Danbatta also stated that the 700 spectrum band has been released for Telecommunication services by the National Frequency Management Council. 

Prof.  Danbatta re-assured the MTN delegation that with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan of the Federal Government, the future is full of promises for investment into Nigeria.
