The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) held the 44th edition of its Consumer Town Hall Meeting in Oguta, Imo state on the 29th of November 2018.

The event is an initiative of the Commission held in rural areas to bring together Telecom Consumers in there rural areas with the Network Operators and the Regulator (NCC) to discuss and proffer solutions to consumer-related issues.

The event theme: ‘Using Information and Education as Tools for Consumer Empowerment and Protection”, is in line with a cardinal objective of the NCC of ensuring consumer empowerment through provision of necessary information and education to telecommunications consumers.
In attendance were a multitude of Oguta community members. leaders, representatives of Network operators as well as staff of the Commission.

Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, speaking through Mrs Felicia, Onwuegbuchulam, Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, NCC, said that NCC’s mandate of regulating the telecom industry and protecting telecom consumers involves empowering the consumer through information and education to take the right decisions, especially when their rights, as consumers, are trampled upon.

Mrs Onwuegbuchulam said that “Consumers rights include the right to receive the correct information on services they subscribed to; the right to be provided with clear, complete, and accurate information, with a language that will be understood, towards guiding them to make informed decision on products and searches offered to them”.

The traditional ruler of Oguta, His Royal Highness, Eze Nzeribe Ezeyiche, the Eze Igwe of Oguta, commended the NCC for the initiative and enjoined the Network Operators to improve their services in the town.
