The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has provided 10 units of desktop computers to the management of Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Dutse, Jigawa State to enhance Information Technology (IT) training at the Institute.

The presentation of the IT equipment to MDI was made by Amina Shehu, Director, Zonal Operations, NCC on behalf of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, at NCC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 5, 2019.

Shehu, while presenting the IT tools, said the donation by the Commission was made in keeping with the NCC's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Shehu told the Management of MDI that NCC believes information is one of the most important strategic resources that any organisation has to manage and that ICT services are crucial assets required to effectively manage it.
“So, this gesture today finds expression in the Commission’s Strategic Vision Plan (SVP) which has informed its various interventions by way of training and provision of ICT equipment to tertiary institutions and other government establishments across the country for the purpose of advancing the use of ICT for development,” Shehu stated.

Accordingly, the NCC Director for Zonal Operations urged the Management of MDI to put the computers into proper and effective use in order to bolster capacity building with the right ICT skills in the country.

While receiving the donations, Salisu Maiwada, Ag. Director of ICT at MDI, who led the MDI team to the Commission, commended NCC for its commitment to deepening digital transformation in the country, stressing that NCC's gesture will go a long way in helping to enhance existing tools in the ICT Training Centre of MDI for further qualitative manpower training delivery.

Maiwada stated that MDI was established in 2010 to raise the standard and competencies of available manpower in the Jigawa State and in line with its mandate, MDI has an ICT Training Centre which has been providing qualitative manpower training to all cadres of workers in both private and public sectors.
