The Nigerian Communications Commission earlier today at the Digital Bridge Institute, Cappa, Oshodi, Lagos, held its 83rd Edition of the Telecoms Consumer Parliament (TCP). The 83rd Edition focused on a theme: Value Added Services and Its Benefits to the Consumers.

Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, in delivering the keynote Speech said the importance of Value Added Services (VAS) is huge in optimizing the benefits of telecom services to the consumers and their choices.

He said it was VAS that enabled social media exploration as well as e-commerce activities that might be useful to the telecom consumer while simultaneously offering cutting edge solutions to the entrepreneur and businesses even as we await the dawn of Internet of Things, IoTs.

Also speaking at the forum, Felicia Onwuegbuchulam, Director Consumer Affairs, NCC, stated that TCP had continued to shape the regulatory policies of the Commission and had equally led to the development of several regulations that are benefiting consumers and other stakeholders in the industry. She also added that TCP had also become and remains a credible and useful platform for consumers, Telecom Operators and the Regulator to reflect on and proffer solutions to pertinent industry issues. She noted that the critical role Value Added Services plays in enhancing consumer experience on the networks and adding to GDP growth cannot be overemphasized.

Felicia amplified the voice of Danbatta, calling on consumers and all stakeholders to utilise VAS to play key roles in the emerging digital economy and to improve the quality of their experiences.

The Event ended with contributions, observations and recommendations by relevant stakeholders on how to improve the symbiotic  relationship between VAS players and GSM Service Providers as well as enhance Regulatory Excellence and Operational Efficiency in the industry.
